Who We Are
At the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, our Research and Planning Unit plays a central role in supporting the delivery of our mandate for the sport and youth sectors in Trinidad and Tobago. We use research, data collection and technical analysis to strengthen strategic planning, policy formulation and decision-making across the Ministry.

What We Do
Through the Research and Planning Unit, we:
- Undertake research to support Government policy formulation for the sport and youth sectors.
- Provide technical advice to support the effective and efficient functioning of the Ministry.
- Prepare annual development programme budget estimates, including PSIP estimates for the Ministry.
- Prepare PSIP monthly status and achievement reports.
- Prepare reports for the Annual Review of the Economy and other strategic planning documents.
- Develop and maintain statistical databases, including data for the Social Sector Investment Programme (SSIP) and key Ministry events.
- Prepare Cabinet Notes, briefs, reports, position papers and other strategic documents.
- Prepare responses to Parliamentary Questions and documents for the National Budget and Budget Debate.
- Support the Standing Finance Committee process and other key financial and planning exercises.
- Prepare strategic reports on the Ministry’s programmes, activities and achievements.
Our Roles and Responsibilities
We also:
- Represent the Ministry at local, regional and international conferences and workshops.
- Serve on inter-ministerial and other committees.
- Prepare annual administrative reports for the Ministry and related entities.
- Conduct research to support sector planning, policy advice and programme development.
- Monitor the progress of the Ministry’s and its agencies’ achievements under the PSIP.
- Contribute to the preparation of Cabinet Notes, speeches, briefs and position papers on key issues.
Recent Work
Our recent work has included the preparation of draft budget estimates for development programmes, PSIP reports, planned deliverables, Public Accounts Committee documents, administrative reports and other supporting documentation for key Ministry processes. We have also assisted with requests for information, policy inputs, programme planning and the execution of projects and programmes across the Ministry.
