The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs (MSYA) is a service-oriented organization that caters to both the sport and youth-related needs of its stakeholders. The MSYA is the arm of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, dedicated to empowering the nation’s youth and fostering the holistic development of our athletes.
The core mission of the Ministry revolves around promoting total participation and excellence in sport, encouraging healthy and active lifestyles among all citizens, and actively diversifying the youth development agenda for Trinidad and Tobago.
The Ministry is responsible for formulating and implementing national policies aimed at expanding the sport and youth development landscapes, ensuring that both sectors receive adequate support, resources, and opportunities for growth.
Sport plays a critical role in the social, economic, and human development of Trinidad and Tobago. The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs is responsible for providing strategic leadership for the development of sport as a vehicle for healthy lifestyles, youth development, social inclusion, national pride, and international sporting success.
Guided by the National Sport Policy and aligned with national development priorities, the Ministry’s strategic direction focuses on building a coordinated, sustainable, and inclusive sport system. This system supports participation at the grassroots and community levels while establishing clear pathways for talent identification, athlete development, and high-performance achievement.
Key areas of focus include improving access to safe and modern sport infrastructure; strengthening governance, accountability, and capacity within national sport organisations; and supporting the professional development of coaches, officials, and sport administrators. The Ministry also promotes the integration of sport science, medicine, and technology to enhance athlete welfare and performance.
The Ministry is committed to fostering equitable opportunities for women and girls, persons with disabilities, and underserved communities, ensuring that sport remains accessible to all. Strategic partnerships with schools, community groups, national sport organisations, the private sector, and regional and international stakeholders are essential to advancing these objectives.
Through targeted investment, policy-driven programmes, and collaborative partnerships, the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs seeks to maximise the impact of sport as a tool for national development and to strengthen Trinidad and Tobago’s presence and performance on the regional and international sporting stage.
Our youth are vital to the future development of Trinidad and Tobago. They must be nurtured, listened to, protected and encouraged, given proper guidance and easy access to education, personal development, health care and meaningful employment. They must be supported and provided with the means to grow and develop and there must be a forum for their voices to be heard and their ideas, plans and programmes incorporated into national policy. They must also be given opportunities to participate in Government and the public and private sectors at the highest levels.

The Ministry of Youth Development and National Service (MYDNS) is focused on developing civic-minded citizens, driven by an enthusiasm for national service, through a dynamic, customer oriented, policy driven organization that brings all stakeholder together for a better quality of life and nation pride.
Each citizen will have an opportunity to utilize our e-platform to register as a volunteer in any area of service, based on skills and resources, to provide guidance for the professional or social growth of our nation’s youths; or as mentors to offer emotional support and instill positive values to up-lift the vulnerable.
The basis for this strategic direction will be formalized after nationwide consultation which will be grounded in the tenets of:
